IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME
Irritable bowel syndrome ( #IBS ) is characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort combined with changes in bowel habits, after ruling out any infectious causes. It is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders. The exact cause is still unknown, but factors like psychosocial distress, gut-brain interaction issues, imbalances in gut bacteria, motility problems, and heightened visceral sensitivity are believed to contribute to this condition.

The signs and symptoms include:
Abdominal pain
Altered bowel habits - altering constipation and diarrhea
Bloating and flatulence
Other symptoms include heartburn, nausea, vomiting, indigestion.
Although, the above symptoms themselves are not enough to make the correct diagnosis. Roman IV criteria are now used to make the diagnosis, which include:
Recurrent abdominal pain on average at least 1 day/week in the last 3 months, associated with two or more of the following criteria:
Related to defecation
Associated with a change in the frequency of stool
Associated with a change in the form (appearance) of stool
